Spring Trip: Ottawa

Posted by: unsharable on: May 6, 2008

Ottawa was so much better this time round! But before we could enjoy our time in Ottawa, I had a huge scare. While on the cab from the train station to the Marriot hotel, I think my phone must have dropped out of my pocket. Was so busy moving all the luggage and didn’t realize the phone was gone until I was in the hotel room. Went down to the reception immediately and called the taxi company and train station. Also sms-ed my phone as well as calling. Finally a man picked up and spoke to mummy. He said he had my phone and that he’ll call back. We waited for some time and there was no call.. tried calling my phone again.. At that point I kind of thought that my phone was gone. Then the guy called back and spoke in FRENCH! Idiot you know.. so we had to get the receptionist to talk to him. He gave us an address in old st. Patrick. Rushed there in a cab, and met this black guy. Seriously I wasn’t afraid or anything but just wanted my phone back. He gave it back to me, rather unwillingly. And then stared at us.. so mummy gave him 10 US dollars.. he then said “isn’t this a very important phone to you? Aren’t I a nice guy”.. so mummy gave him 20 more Canadian dollars. At that moment.. I was rather disgusted at how greedy he was. Got angry at myself for losing the phone, and my luck to meet such an idiot. Mummy was so worried about the guy following us.. and even till now she’s still afraid of the encounter. I just hope that we won’t have such a situation again.

We visited the tulip festival at Major’s Park and Commissioner’s Park the next day. There were plenty of flowers and the colours were amazing. Lots of people walking and we caught a trampoline performance in the park. Had beaver tail after that (and I think I saw a beaver near parliament hill that same day)

Went to Byward market for light lunch, bought many types of berries and apples! Went to parliament hill to try and get the tour tickets but it was all given out at 2pm.. so made it a point to go back again the next morning at 9.20am. The tour was really worth it, coz the inside of the building was so grand and beautiful. How come we can’t build something like that in Singapore? haha..

The next day, we packed up and then lugged 3 more bags to take the train to Montreal.
